OVERLAND PARK, Kansas--June 26--NPC International (“NPC”), the fifth largest restaurant unit operator in the United States and largest domestic franchisee of both Pizza Hut and Wendy’s, today announced that after more than 23 years of leading the Company, Jim Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer, and Troy Cook, Chief Financial Officer, will transition from their current executive roles to the new roles of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Company, respectively.

Since joining NPC, Mr. Schwartz and Mr. Cook have shaped NPC into a leading restaurant franchisee operator, growing its restaurant operations from 350 Pizza Hut units in 1995 to more than 1,213 Pizza Hut units and growing NPC’s Wendy’s business to 386 restaurants since 2014 across the United States. Today, NPC operates approximately 20 percent of the domestic Pizza Hut system.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play a significant leadership role at NPC over the last 26 plus years – the last 15 as CEO,” said Mr. Schwartz. “Troy joined me at NPC over 23 years ago as CFO, helping to grow NPC into a tremendous customer-centered organization. Now, after years of having a lot of fun together, we have decided it is best to offer others the same opportunity to elevate their careers and take on leadership positions at the Company. We are both excited about the future of NPC and its significant growth prospects, and we look forward to assisting the Company while we transition away from day-to-day operations.”

To further enhance the operations of Pizza Hut and Wendy’s, NPC will establish separate management teams for each of its operating businesses. Steve Layt, who joined NPC in April, will assume the day-to-day responsibilities as President and CEO of NPC’s Pizza Hut business.

“I am honored to be working alongside Jim and Troy and grateful for the strong foundation they have created for NPC’s brands over the last two decades,” said Mr. Layt. “I look forward to building on their momentum and executing on our mission to provide exceptional customer service and experiences.”

As an industry veteran, Mr. Layt will bring over 30 years of leadership and restaurant experience to NPC, having recently led his own global consulting and executive coaching firm focused on the restaurant and retail sectors. He was previously the President of Applebee’s, the world’s largest casual dining restaurant company, and has held both leadership and operational roles within Yum! Brands and Pizza Hut.

NPC has initiated a search to identify a President and CEO for its Wendy’s business. Mr. Schwartz will help to transition and onboard the new executive and maintain day-to-day responsibilities for the Wendy’s division until the President and CEO is fully integrated.

On January 31, 2018, NPC was acquired by a joint venture of two privately owned holding companies.

“NPC is a unique platform that is poised for continued growth as we successfully execute the Company’s business strategy,” said Todd Boehly, Chairman and CEO of Eldridge Industries, an owner of NPC. “Jim and Troy’s tenure has been one of consistent excellence and unwavering commitment, anchored by their dedication to the Company, the brands and the customers. We are extremely fortunate to have them remain as key leaders for at least the next couple of years so we may continue to leverage their extensive experience and expertise.”
